WW2 M40 Q66 German Waffen SS Helmet

Item H627: Exterior displays battlefield wear with approx 75% of the factory paint remaining. There is what appears to be a small arms bullet strike which left an indentation on the left side. There is also a circular spot of white paint on the left side. When that occurred is anyone’s guess. The factory applied and correct Quist style runic decal is approx 80%. Super tight fitting liner system 100% original to the helmet. All three untouched split pin rivet fasteners intact and complete with all three slotted washers. Leather liner is undamaged, somewhere between pliable and stiff, and has taken on a darkened aged appearance. The entire drawstring is there but has broken. I wouldn’t recommend replacing it because it is part of the helmets history. Buckle end of chinstrap is steel. Long portion of strap is in full length, somewhere between pliable and stiff, manufacturer and 1940 date on tip. The next awesome part of this helmet is it the fact that it’s named to Walter Schmitt and has the Feldpost Nr scratched on the rear of the flared edge. It was hard to capture completely in photographs but most of it can be seen below. I’m positive someone can research it in the archives and find more information on Schmitt and the battles he engaged in.

WWII M35 ET62 German Army Camo Helmet

Item H620: Here is a very interesting helmet. It began life as a double decal Heer. It was then painted a tan Mediterranean/DAK camo over the factory paint. At some point it was then painted a gray over the tan as clearly demonstrated in the photographs. Both tan and gray paint were applied around the Heer decal leaving it exposed. Whereas, both tan and gray were applied over the National tri-color decal on the right side. A ghosting of the decal and crazing in the paint can be seen where the decal still sits. It is common for camouflage paint to craze if applied over top of a decal. Also to note, there are two sets of Heer decals. One over top of the other. The original decal can be seen where a small portion had chipped away in the breast of the top decal. All very unique and quite a story to tell. The inside rim of the helmet has been painted gray. Some of the overpainted gray is on the aluminum liner band. Tight fitting liner system 100% original to the helmet. All three untouched split pin rivet fasteners intact and complete with all three slotted washers. The rivets have been untouched and are fused with paint and oxidation to the helmet as demonstrated in the USB microscope photographs. Leather liner is undamaged, fully pliable and has taken on a darkened aged appearance. Original drawstring in place. Buckle end of chinstrap is of a later style steel variety. Long portion of strap is in full length and pliable. RBNr. code of manufacturer on tip. Really cool example in very good condition.

WWII M40 Q64 German Luftwaffe Camo Helmet

Item H454: Just in out of the “Woodwork” from the Veteran’s grand daughter in Vermont. Unbelievable provenance with photos. This helmet was brought back from the European Theater by Captain Ernest Sachs of the 45th Evacuation Hospital. The grand daughter remembers her grandfather took part in the liberation of Buchenwald Concentration Camp and the stories he told. Captain Sachs is also listed in the roster at the bottom of the attached website. I have large format digital single photo copies of Mr. Sachs that will be included in the sale. The series of photos you see here have been resized smaller just to fit them all on one page. It is quite remarkable that this helmet was with the same family for this long. Most of these military souvenirs are long gone by now.
