WW2 M42 ET66 German Luftwaffe Helmet w/Provenance
Item H657: It’s not too often anymore that a helmet will come in out of the woodwork and from the Veteran’s family. Those sources have nearly dried up. This particular helmet comes from the son of the Veteran who lives in Racine, Wisconsin. This is what was transpired to me, “As a kids I used to run around with it playing and once took it school for show and tell. The teacher didn’t think that was such a great idea. My Dad was in the 82nd Airborne Glider Div and served in all theaters of war in Europe and Italy with the 82nd. He started in North Africa in 1942 and fought through out the war to end of meeting the Russians at the Elbe River in 1945. I have done some researching on this highly decorated unit and there are lots of amazing stories. He was with 307th medical detachment which worked on the battlefield retrieving dead and wounded even when the battle was still in progress. He made glider landings on D-Day and Operation Garden Market in Holland. Their unit was supposed do a glider operation for Sicily from North Africa in 1942 but apparently there weren’t enough gliders for both the Americans and British. They also liberated at least one concentration camp. I was lucky enough to record his stories before he passed away and his stories were incredible. I am a Vietnam combat infantryman veteran but I am not sure I could have survived what those guys went through. He was an amazing guy.”
Included are photos of Robert Koeppen and a Christmas card. The customer will receive the uncensored photos via jpeg format.
