WWII M42 EF66 German Luftwaffe Helmet w/Veteran Provenance

Item: H324 Just picked today April 14, 2017 out of Delanco, New Jersey from the Veteran’s grandson roughly 1/2 hour away from me. This is the real deal folks! Not many more Veteran groupings coming out of the “Woodwork” anymore. S/Sgt Mario DiBenedetto was a photographer for V Bomber Command. What was told to me by the grandson was Mario would take the reconnaissance or intelligence photos from a plane. That was all he could basically tell me about his grandfather’s time in service. Included in the entire lot are an M42 EF66 Luftwaffe helmet. Heer breast and cap eagles unissued. Army Air Force bracelet named to a different person which could have been a good friend of Mario’s. Selective Service medal with ribbon and tie tack. Rifle qualification medal, Many photographs of Mario in uniform, Release of Official Photographs Document with Mario DiBenedetto signature, V Bomber Command Relations booklet, 6 copies of Yank magazine, General Marshall’s report. Lastly something very interesting. 3 pages of names of accused Nazis and charges by the US Military court pertaining to the Dachau and Landsberg concentration camps atrocities. It also states that only many hundreds of prisoners were effected. Not tens of thousands.

WWI Si.66 M18 German Camo Helmet

Item: H258 Just in from a very old and long time collection out of Ohio. This particular WWI German camo helmet displays the typical battlefield blocked out camo. Heavy blocked out black lines with tan and green camo paint within. The camo paint encompasses the majority of the exterior. The original steel liner band has been married to the helmet for approx 100 years. The 3 leather pads are totally intact and the cloth pouches still have the original filling which is mostly horsehair. The chinstrap resembles another WWII German helmet so I’m positive it is a period replacement. Named on the inner visor what appears to be a fountain pen to the original German soldier. Index tag on chinstrap bale from original collector that acquired this particular helmet. Overall excellent condition for a helmet that is 100 years old!

WW2 M42 CKL64 German Army Helmets H231

WWII M40 EF64 German Army Single Decal Helmet

Item: H216 This particular helmet is on consignment. The consignor explained to me that he had the darkened area on the leather tested for blood by a forensic scientist. A small piece was removed where the eyelet was already missing. It tested positive. He also tried to have the dark streaks on the exterior swabbed for blood but it came up inconclusive. The forensic scientist that administered the test stated that a piece of paint would have to be removed for a proper result. The consignor did not want to damage the helmet in any way. However, In the forensic scientist’s opinion it is in fact blood. He also speculates that the owner had suffered a head wound and his head was propped up by the helmet while receiving some first aid while blood dribbled on to the shell. Although this is speculation he believes it to be very probable from his experience with the blood work he does.

Exterior displays very light wear with most of the rough textured factory feldgrau (field gray) paint intact. I would rate it at approx 98%. Authentic and factory applied Heer adler decal commensurate with the overall wear and also rates approx 98%. Tight fitting liner system 100% original to the helmet. All three untouched split pin rivet fasteners intact and complete with all three slotted washers. Sheep skin leather liner exhibits a nice creamy color. One eyelet is missing from one of the tabs. Drawstring in place. Quality control ink stamp visible on interior crown of helmet. Overall excellent condition.

WWII M40 EF64 German Army Single Decal Ex Whitewash Helmet

Item: H212 Here is an authentic period ex whitewash camo helmet. Most of what collectors call ex whitewash helmets are mistaken and improperly described. If there is a small white build up around the rivets or in low areas it is really just oxidation from the aluminum oxide mixed in the paint. What is offered here is a true ex whitewash. On the under side of the helmet a white paint can be clearly seen in the corner of the factory fold over as well. Authentic and factory applied Heer adler decal is approx 80%. Liner system 100% original to the helmet. All three untouched split pin rivet fasteners intact and complete with all three slotted washers. Goat skin leather liner fully pliable, undamaged and has taken on a darkened aged appearance. Drawstring in full length with original knot still in place. Buckle end of chinstrap is aluminum. Long portion of strap is in full length and pliable. Manufacturer and 1940 date visible on tip. I suspect the helmet was depot re-issued when there was already some paint loss on the exterior. WWII M16 Austrian SS-VT Helmet

[Item: H85] Recently acquired from a trade with Kelly Hicks. This is his description:

For sale is an excellent example of an Allgemeine-SS transitional helmet, circa 1935. This helmet is one of an evident batch of these which were contracted at the same time by the SS and outfitted in the same facility. They reflect the contract nature of SS acquisition at that time; parts liners, domed retaining rivets, assorted style chinstraps and thin quality satin black over field grey finishes. This shell is marked “EB”. This exact helmet is pictured in SS-Steel, pp 42-43. The decals are classic CA Pocher runic and party shields, showing a small amount of enamel retouch to the runes. Taken with the overall condition of this helmet, this retouch appears to be period done, as was often the case when helmets were being repeatedly polished and prepared for parade use, and decals would flake or diminish. The helmet bears the name “Huska” in the dome. A classic Allgemeine helmet in a known configuration. Price reflects the overall condition and rarity of this piece, and includes certificate of guarantee of authenticity.

WWII M40 ET64 German DAK Luftwaffe Helmet

[Item: H69] Just picked up this DAK helmet this morning that has been with the family for nearly 70 years. It comes from the son who’s mother (Mary Douglas Ritz/Risser of Red Lion, Pennsylvania) was given this helmet as a gift for selling the most War Bonds in York County, Pennsylvania.

Exterior displays a tropical tan or DAK camo paint which encompasses approx 80% of the exterior. On the left side of the helmet a Luftwaffe adler decal can clearly be seen. Tight fitting liner system 100% original to the helmet. All three untouched split pin rivet fasteners intact and complete with all three slotted washers. Goat skin leather liner fully pliable, undamaged and has taken on a darkened aged appearance. This is exactly the condition liner you want to encounter. Very dark due to high perspiration from the German soldier caused by the hot tropical climate. Name inscribed on the leather liner to Oblt. Graul (Oberleutnant or equivalent in US rank to Senior Lieutenant). Drawstring is a substitute. Overall very good condition.

WWII M35 Q64 German Waffen SS Helmet

(Item:OO) Helmets like this don’t become available on the open market too often. Exterior has been period repainted over the smooth glossy factory paint. Many times this was done to various helmets to eliminate the shine in the battlefield that is associated with the M35’s. The paint is in the low to mid 90% range with most of the abraiding occurring on the left side. Both authentic and period applied decals in very good condition. The Party decal does exhibit some lifting but still shows fantastic detail. Since the helmet has been repainted it has the correctly applied Pocher style Runic decal. Very common with re-issued or repainted helmets. Runic decal survived in excellent condition. Tight fitting liner system 100% original to the helmet. All three untouched split pin rivet fasteners intact and complete with all three slotted washers. Leather liner fully pliable, undamaged and has taken on a darkened aged appearance. Buckle end of chinstrap is steel with approx 80% of the gray paint intact. Long portion of strap is fully pliable and in its entire length. Manufacturer and date on tip is indiscernible. Overall very good+ condition.

WW2 M35 Q64 German Luftwaffe DAK Tan Camo Helmet

(Item: H16) Fresh from an estate in Longview, Washington and brand new to the market. Here is an untouched virgin example of a Luftwaffe Afrika Korps tan camo helmet that has not been cleaned, dusted or in a collection. Notice the heavy dusty buildup between the shell and liner band. There is also a tan overpaint on the liner band which is the same color as the camo. The exterior camo paint encompasses approx 85-90% of the helmet. Under the camouflage paint on the left side of the helmet a very small portion of the Luftwaffe adler is seen (see 100x macro image). On the right side under the DAK tan paint an outline of the National tri-color can be seen. Liner system 100% original to the helmet. All three untouched split pin rivet fasteners intact and complete with all three slotted washers. The liner band is the reinforced aluminum style. Manufacturer and date is obscured by the very heavy dusty buildup. Leather liner fully pliable, intact and has taken on a darkened aged appearance. All it needs is a drawstring and early aluminum chinstrap to make a completely wonderful helmet. This is a somewhat hard to find camo helmet that is in a pure and untouched state. Overall good+ condition.

WWII M35 EF64 German Army/Heer Helmet

Super tight fitting liner system original to the helmet. All three untouched split pin rivet fasteners intact and complete with all three slotted washers. Since this particular helmet is a war time reissue it was outfitted with a later style pigskin leather liner which is perfectly acceptable. WWII M40 ET64 German Combat/Field Police Helmet

(Item: H27) This is a very high grade Combat Field Police helmet. Exterior factory paint is nearly 100%. Both authentic and period applied decals nearly 100% as well. Police decal displays a run of adhesive at the bottom. Very minor chipping at the bottom keep it from rating 100% and would actually come in at a firm 99%. The Party decal is in stunning condition too and would also rate approx 99%. Tight fitting liner system 100% original to the helmet. All three untouched split pin rivet fasteners intact and complete with all three slotted washers. Leather liner fully pliable, intact and has taken on a darkened aged appearance. Drawstring in full length with original knot still in place. Buckle end of chinstrap is the aluminum style. Long portion of strap is in full length and pliable. Manufacturer and date partially visible on tip. Overall excellent condition.
